Each time Appelt’s visits Antwerp, long days are spent inspecting each and every diamond presented, for cut, clarity and color. Appelt’s standards are rigorous — only 1 out of every 30 diamonds is chosen for the return trip to Winnipeg.

When Appelt’s travels to Belgium, their team painstakingly inspects hundreds of diamonds, discarding the ones that don’t meet Appelt’s standards. When they find a diamond that meets their approval, they put it in their “yes” pile, while the others are discarded. They then put their “yes” pile on hold, go to see another dealer and folow the same process. In the end, when the team purchases a diamond, they are confident they have purchased a high quality diamond for a great price.
